carl fingerhut Carl Fingerhuth, holds a Diploma of Architecture from ETH Zürich. geboren 1936 in Zürich, worked in Switzlerland, Austria, France, Spain, Hungria, Poland, Tchechnia, China, Egypt, Nigeria 1979 to 1992 he was city planner for Basel in Switzerland. He is Prof. em. of Urban Design at Darmstadt University of Technology, but also lectured at the State University of Virginia, University of Basel, ETH Zürich, École d'Architecture de Strasbourg, École d'Architecture, Genf. He was urban design advisor to the cities of Bremen, Feldkirch, Salzburg, Halle, Karlsruhe, Köln, Stuttgart, Heidelberg und Regensburg. rodney harber Rodney Harber has practiced as an Architect, Urban and Regional Planner for forty years in South Africa. Whilst in practice he was at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in Durban as Assoc. Professor in the School of Architecture, Housing and Planning. His work has received medals of distinction, awards of merit and been widely published. He has lectured worldwide. Projects have been recognized for their innovative solutions to the unique challenges in the developing world. Sustainability, nutrition, training and the impact of HIV/AIDS are recurring themes. Apart from practice he will be undertaking teaching studios in Africa and Europe. He now also has the challenge of chairing The Bureau of Education, Research and Technology (B.E.R.T.) which is an initiative of the Africa Union of Architects. This role involves travelling to cities throughout the continent and fuels his interest in the African City. He also represents Africa on the UNESCO Council and is co-opted onto the UIA.2007 Harber received the Medal of Distinction from the South African Institute of Architects. |

maria elena martín, ph.d. Dr. Martin is a Cuban urban planner and architect, She studied at the ISPJAE in La Habana, Czechoslovakia and Rotterdam. Since 1984 she teaches at the ISPJAE Polytechnic and was nominated full Professor of History of Architecture in Havana’s Faculty of Architecture, at the Higher Institute for Polytechnic Studies Jose Antonio Echeverria. Apart from that she gave lectures at the Technical University in Berlin; Berlage Institute in Rotterdam; in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), London; in the Bauhaus University Weimar and the Brown University, Rhode Island, USA. 1974 to 1988 she was Head of the Projects Department the Office for Architecture & Urbanism of Havana City. In 1988 she was appointed Head of the Urban Design Department of the newly founded Provincial Office for Physical Planning and Architecture of Havana City. 1993 to 1998 she worked as a senior specialist, investigating themes of architecture and urbanism and co-authored the Architectural Guide of Havana for which she gained a large number of awards. From 1980 to 1990 Ms Martín was President of the Architecture Section in the Provincial Commission of Historical Monuments; in 2005 she coordinated “4 VECES 5”, an exhibition with 20 models of the best art deco architecture in Havana; and organized the Architecture exhibition at the 7th Biennale of Havana. She published more than 30 books and articles |

nimpuno Dr. Krisno Nimpuno, architect, teaches at the Wits University, Johannesburg. He is specialist on disaster prevention and ecological sanitation systems. He also is director of the Office for Disaster Preparedness in Africa, ODPA, at Wits University and of the Disaster and Emergency Reference Center (DERC) of Delft University. He regularly works in projects on rural development, infrastructure planning, refugee resettlement schemes, and environmental improvement on behalf of internationals organizations, such as the World Bank, the UN, and others. |
