Jochen Monstadt

Professor Dr. Jochen Monstadt holds the chair of spatial and infrastructure planning at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture at TU Darmstadt. His research interests are at the interface between urban studies and social studies of technology. He has conducted and coordinated extensive comparative research on the urban transition of energy, water and wastewater systems, on the co-evolution of cities and infrastructures and on infrastructure planning and (sub)urban governance in Germany, Switzerland, Canada, the United States and Vietnam. Since 2014 he is the director of the Graduate School or Urban Studies and its PhD program “Urban infrastructures in Transition: The case of African cities”.
