| tor vergata | Universitá degli Studi di Roma 'Tor Vergata' is one of the leading academic institutions in Italy. The Tor Vergata campus was founded in 1982 in the southern area of Rome, the capital city. The area chosen for the new university, a large open space in the countryside, has allowed a wide access network to exist far from the congested city traffic. The search for quality and efficiency was not only the criteria used for building the facilities, but also what was used in organizing and planning its academic and research programmes. Tor Vergata’s graduate programs are a key component of the University’s success, as they are highly regarded around the world. These programs are offered in a wide range of fields, including: Economics, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Humanities, Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Computer Science. The School of Economics at Tor Vergata has always considered cross-cultural activities and international exchanges an important and fundamental aspect of educational programmes and research activities. Thus, the students who choose to fulfill their foreign study experience in the Faculty of Economics at Tor Vergata, play an integrating part in the university community life. The School of Economics has an approximately 4,000 students enrolled. It hosts a library with more than 30 thousand catalogued monographs and over 2 thousand magazines and journals (many of which available on line), a data processing centre, a language lab, and a graduates’ employment opportunities office which promotes links between graduates and enterprises. In 2006, and for the fourth consecutive year, the Faculty of Economics was ranked first in the Italian university guide based on a survey by the Italian CENSIS institution in collaboration with the newspaper “La Repubblica” and, in 2007, it held second place. |

getting around
| Public transport is usually cheap and efficient
and is probably the best way to visit Italian cities, since parking,
petrol and motorway tolls are quite expensive in Italy. Generally
speaking, it is usually more expensive to buy a single ticket, so it’s
worth your while to purchase a monthly ticket for transport in Rome. Be
aware that bus tickets are not sold on board and need to be purchased
beforehand, usually at tobacconist’s and newsstands. All tickets must be
stamped before boarding . |

working in Italy|
Many Italian students have some form of part time employment to help
support themselves while studying. If you are a citizen of a EU member
state you are eligible to work in Italy without a work permit. All other
students from outside the EU will require a work permit which is quite
difficult to obtain. |
